Life Behind the Lens: Monthly Photography Update - JUNE
Building a photography business while working full-time in the NICU, planning a wedding, and adjusting to life with a new puppy has been a lot—but also incredibly rewarding. This month has been full of growth, learning, and some really exciting sessions that reminded me why I started this journey in the first place.
📸 What I’ve Been Photographing:
This month marked the end of a busy and challenging season, and I’m now transitioning into senior sessions. Lately, I’ve been photographing a lot of proposals and engagements, which have quickly become some of my favorite moments to capture. There’s something incredibly special about being trusted with such a big, emotional milestone in someone’s life. Each session has felt unique, fast-paced, and full of genuine emotion—no two are ever the same.
📈 Business Wins:
One of the biggest wins this month is getting closer to 300 Instagram followers. While numbers aren’t everything, it’s exciting to see steady growth and new people discovering my work. Every follow, inquiry, and share helps my business grow in ways that matter far beyond social media. Slow progress is still progress, and I’m learning to celebrate that more.
💡 What I’ve Learned:
This month has been a huge learning curve in a few areas. I’ve been diving deeper into Lightroom Classic and refining my editing workflow. I’m starting to understand the locations I naturally gravitate toward and photograph best in. I've been working a lot on the backend part of my business despite busy season. My editing style is becoming more defined, which has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey. And lastly, I’ve realized just how important SEO is for long-term business growth and visibility. Everything is starting to feel more intentional—less guessing, more confidence.
🌄 Favorite Session of the Month:
My favorite session this month was a proposal shoot that honestly had me feeling everything—anxiety, excitement, nerves, and pure adrenaline. As it was my first surprise proposal session, I was nervous leading up to it, the moment everything unfolded, it turned into one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had as a photographer. Capturing that kind of once-in-a-lifetime moment reminded me exactly why I do what I do. It’s not just about photos—it’s about trust, timing, and emotion all coming together in real time.
🛠️ SEO & Marketing Tips That Worked:
This month, I’ve been focusing more intentionally on CRM, SEO, and visibility, and a few things have stood out:
- Writing consistent blog posts helps more than I expected.
- Using location-based keywords naturally in captions and blogs improves reach.
- Updating website content regularly keeps things feeling fresh and active.
- Staying consistent on Instagram, even without perfection, keeps engagement steady.
It feels like a high working one my website, marketing, outreach, and workflow of projects. But as we all should constantly stive to be, I’m still learning, but I can already see how these small habits are building momentum over time.
🎯 Goals for Next Month:
Next month is going to be a balancing act, but I’m excited for it.
My goals are:
- Book at least one paid shoot every weekend - which ive consistently managed to do for the month of June already
- Maintain better work-life balance
- Navigate life with a new puppy
- Stay present while planning my own wedding
- Continue working full-time in the NICU
- Keep growing my photography business without burning out
- Invest more into my business
It’s a lot, but I’m learning how to build a life that fits all of it.
❤️ Lastly Thank You to My Clients... To everyone who has booked a session, shared my work, referred me, or simply supported me along the way—thank you. Every session means more than just photos to me. It’s trust, connection, and a chance to preserve something meaningful in someone’s life. In just one full month I have made huge steps towards my goal of becoming a full-time photographer. I’m so grateful for every opportunity I’ve had so far, and I can’t wait to see what next month brings. Just one weekend at a time, I’m building something I truly love.
